Enlightening Friendship Bond
A famous author Plutarch puts friendship this way, “I don’t need a friend who changes when I change and who nods when I nod; my shadow does that much better.”
We don’t look out for friends who mirror us. We fit with people who will complement us. More like a salt and pepper combination. Life gets better and beautiful with true friends. It is okay to have a few true friends than to have several friends who are of no value.
Nothing relates to the joy of spending time with a friend, enjoying silly jokes, laughing out heartily, sharing how we feel, and fighting for petty kinds of stuff. A true friend sojourns with you no matter how the circumstances vary. Earlier days, people always had one true friend who stays for their entire life. Technology advancement robbed us of every good thing we held.
The trend has changed now. An individual has hundreds and hundreds of friends on social media. But he knows no one privately. People yearn for followers on social media sites but fail to know that it is of no use when the situation obliges. Thus, this generation is known for stress. In good olden days, we looked to our neighbours for help and support. Today, we hardly know who resides next door. Though many things changed in life having that one true friend always remains on top.
Friends are stress-busters. We may lose our happy days, but we get to taste it every time we spend time with our old friends. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Jokes, laughter, won’t work ideas and much more fun things keep us going for friends. We need someone to pat on our shoulder and say come-on things will be alright especially when down. A companion who understands exactly the way you feel and sympathize with you is worth more than millions. Friends must build you and not destroy.
Gone are the days, where we spent quality time with our friends. We didn’t have phones, yet we stayed connected. We didn’t have Instagram yet we stayed informed about our friends. We didn’t have WhatsApp yet we stayed in touch irrespective of distances. I appreciate friends who not only meet at Cinema theatres or busy cafe shops but who spend time with nature. Entertainments out there rob our energy and exhaust us instead of reviving. Spending quality times in a quiet place with nature is real. Getting a long drive, spending time at the beach, performing a social task, chatting face to face with friends is always in trend. One must know that nothing can compare to the joy of spending quality time with a friend.
It is hard to find friends who stay true. How joyful it is when you get your friend as your life partner. That will build happy families and happy societies as well. We all have that one friend who shared our childhood fun and continues to enjoy our company even after marriage. Friends are there for both good and bad times. It is incredible to see a bunch of friends celebrating your happiness on your wedding. We see very many gangs of friends who make an occasion lively.
The Holy books affirm friendship too. Arjuna & Krishna in the Gita, Khaleel & Ibrahim (Two kinds of friends) in the Quran and David & Jonathan in the Bible represent true friendship. I believe that all other Holy books will project the importance of friendship. No religion is against friendship and friends are chosen beyond restrictions that prevail in our societies. After all, God is love.
Greater love has no man than to lay down his life for his friend. A friend’s soul sticks close to ours. They become our go-to place at happy and sad times. They are our abode for refuge at times of trouble. We share fun-filled moments with our friends, and it cannot be the same way as anyone else in this universe. We take this moment to salute all our friends who made and are making our lives colorful.
We need friends who invigorate us with their influence. May friendship live long! We wish you all a very happy friendship day.
